Garttmeyer Moving & Storage

Their old site took almost three seconds to show anything. The new one takes one.

The full Garttmeyer Moving homepage: a hero headlined "Bucks County's Most Trusted Movers Since 1925" over four credential cards, a four-step process, a reasons-to-choose block, eight service cards, a stats band, three testimonials, the company history with a timeline, and a closing call to action

Garttmeyer has moved families and businesses around Bucks County since 1925. They are an agent for National Van Lines, so a local crew can hand a move off anywhere in the country, and they run a 25,000 square foot warehouse approved to store military household goods.

The previous Garttmeyer site on Wix: a centred logo and red wordmark, three lines of text beside one photo of a truck at sunset, then two untitled blocks of small type and a row of partner logos

The Problem

A Hundred Years in Three Lines of Small Type

The site was built on Wix and looked it. Under the logo and a red wordmark sat three lines of small type: creating customers since 1925, local to international moves, proud agent for National Van Lines. A hundred years of trading and a nationwide network, in type smaller than the paragraphs below them.

The homepage never named the services. It ran one paragraph on moving protection and one on packing, and that was the whole account of a company that does local moves, long-distance, international, corporate relocation, specialty items and 25,000 square feet of storage. Anyone who needed one of those had to go hunting in the menu for it.

The page also asked for nothing. It never offered a quote or a date to book, so a visitor who had already decided to hire Garttmeyer had to go off and arrange it themselves.

On a phone it was worse. The layout never adapted, so the desktop page simply shrank. It was slow everywhere too: nothing appeared on screen for 2.9 seconds, and the page took 6.4 to finish loading.

The Solution

What I Built

A homepage that leads somewhere

The homepage opens with what Garttmeyer does and then lays out a move in four steps, from the free estimate to the delivered load. Two ways to act at the end of it: book a time, or send the quote form Austin specced himself, down to a move date that can be a range.

Everything they do, written down

The eight services each got their own section and headline: local, long-distance, packing, storage, corporate relocation, international, specialty items and senior moves. The hundred-year history gets a page of its own, with a timeline, rather than three lines under the logo.

Built to be found locally

Every page has one job and a heading structure a search engine can follow. Three blocks of structured data name the business as a moving company, where it works, when it started and every service it offers. That is the part Google reads when somebody nearby searches for a mover.

The Result

Both sites measured on a phone with Google PageSpeed Insights, on the same day.

1s
Before anything appears, down from 2.9
2.6s
Before the page is fully there, down from 6.4
