Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some of the more common questions are below. If anything's unclear or not covered, please feel free to contact us!

  • That really depends on your situation and what makes most sense for you. The main difference between the two is the up-front cost and ongoing support. With a lump sum you’re paying for the website, design and development up front and only paying a small monthly fee for hosting. Lump sum over time is more cost effective but doesn’t come with the same level of service as the subscription package. The subscription package is much more affordable upfront but will eventually cost more over time as you’re paying a monthly subscription fee. That fee comes with more services like unlimited edits, updates to the website to stay current with changes in browsers, the way Google ranks website and so on. If you find value in the services provided then the subscription package is for you, otherwise you might consider the lump sum.

  • Of course, we don't want to trap you into something you don't need. If you cancel before the 12 month contract ends you'll be charged the remaining balance of a lump sum website (minus what you've already paid of course).

  • The domain, content, images, listings and profiles of the website are yours to keep and will be transferred over to you, the code remains ours. The website will then be taken down.

  • Welcome back! You just need to sign a new contract. Assuming you want to use the same website from before, we’ll relaunch it at no additional cost.

  • Yes. Our default packages bundle the most common functionality and services together. If there’s something specific you need that’s not covered in our existing packages just let us know, we’ll work with you to tailor a package to your needs.

  • By default, the lump sum package does not include 24/7 support or lifetime updates. You can add these for $50/month if you’d like ongoing assistance and updates. Otherwise we’ll charge on a case-by-case basis.

  • Yes, hosting is included in both packages. In the subscription package, it’s part of the $150/month fee. In the lump sum package, hosting is $25/month

  • Unlimited edits mean you can request as many changes to your website’s content as you need and we’ll handle them for you. This does not include changes to the website design, complete redesigns or new website builds. That said, we’re pretty flexible and want to make sure you’re happy with your website, so feel free to reach out.

  • Web standards and SEO ranking guidelines from companies like Google periodically change. We keep your website current and up-to-date with the latest changes in technologies, security standards and structure to ensure it remains a functional and effective tool for your business.

  • Yes, but it depends. If you decide to cancel or request a refund before the project even begins you’ll get a full refund – things happen, we get it. If we can’t come up with a design that you’re happy with and you decide enough’s enough you’ll get a full refund. Once we start developing the website refunds are no longer available by default and are at our discretion.

  • The custom design includes a fully tailored website built to match your brand, audience, and business goals. This covers layout, color schemes, typography, and any specific features or functionality you need. We iterate on this design with you until you’re happy before starting the development process.

  • The process generally takes between 2-4 weeks depending on how quickly we get the necessary information from you (i.e. information about your business, image requests etc), availability of our designer and content creator, and number of revisions.

  • Search engines like Google rank websites that are fast, mobile-friendly, accessible and well structured with keyword relevant content higher than others. These qualities are guaranteed with our custom design.

That sure is a lot of buzz words – so how do we know we’re achieving these goals? We use data! Your website is run through a publicly accessible tool created by Google called pagespeed insights (it’s free, go ahead and give it a try) which runs a series of tests and scores the site from 0-100 in each category. We achieve 98-100 across the board, something our competitors using page builders like WordPress or WIX can only dream of, giving websites we build an edge against the competition.

  • For feature work, we’ll work with you to understand the scope and identify cost from there. For extra pages, no problem, that’s just a one-time fee of $125 per page.

  • No problem! We can build as many pages as you need. Each additional page is a one-time fee of $125.

  • Yes! We build our websites using a mobile-first approach. This means during development we build out the mobile version first to ensure things look good on the smallest screens then scale up from there. With 60% of traffic coming from mobile devices it’s critical to have a good mobile design.

  • Yes, as long as you have access to login to the domain provider we can use your existing domain. If you don’t have access, be sure to reach out to whoever purchased your domain (i.e. a previous web design company) and have the domain transferred over to you.

  • No, we start our process from scratch intentionally to ensure we can deliver a high quality, custom built website that has everything in place to be an effective tool for your business.

  • I custom build and host the new website and review it with you. Once you're satisfied and ready to switch over to it, we simply reroute where your domain name points from the old to the new. Moving forward the new website will be loaded and you can take down the old (and put it in your keepsake).

  • Nope! We custom code our websites from scratch specifically for you. We believe in providing a high quality solution end-to-end from what the site looks like and how it’s structured and performs. The latter helps with SEO, ranking and user experience, which isn’t something easily achieved with a page builder.

  • Every business needs a website; page builders like Wordpress and WIX make it possible for anyone to get started, and that’s great! They also come with a lot of bloat, plugins that require updates, poorly structured website templates, security risks and regular maintenance.

Writing the code ourselves allows us to avoid all of the pitfalls of a pagebuilder and achieve our goal – delivering high quality, fast and SEO friendly websites that make search engines like Google happy and encourage customer engagement. Custom building the site lets us create an effective tool for your business that can grow with you, not just a digital placeholder.

  • Send an email to mcwdinfo@gmail.com letting us know what you want changed and we make it happen.

  • Subscription clients enjoy unlimited edits as part of their monthly fee. Lump sum clients can request edits at an additional cost or by adding the $50/month maintenance add-on.

  • I continue to monitor changes in best practices, factors in SEO and how Google ranks sites etc and apply them to your website. This falls under the lifetime support and maintenance -- the web is ever evolving, so your website needs a little TLC to keep up.

If you purchase the lump sum package, lifetime support and maintenance is available as an add-on to keep your website updated.

  • The lump sum package by default doesn’t come with 24/7 support, lifetime of updates, unlimited edits etc like the subscription package does. If that’s something you find value in you can add it on for $50/month. Otherwise, edits and updates to the website will be charge at an hourly rate.

  • We handle any edits on your behalf so you can focus on your business, not maintaining a website. If you prefer to do it yourself that’s perfectly ok too, we can wire-up a secure section for handling edits and grant you access to it.
